Sen. Harding: CT Democrats Vote Against $92.2 M in Special Education Funding - CT Senate Republic

CT Democrats Vote Against $92.2 Million in Special Education Funding

Republicans want more money for special education and won’t settle for less

Sen. Minority Leader Stephen Harding today issued the following statement:

“Last week, Senate Republicans voted to fund special education – the right way.

The fiscally responsible way.

Today, Senate Republicans offered – and voted for – an amendment to fund special education in CT the right way.

$92.2 million worth of funding.

More than doubling what the Democrats proposed

Without budget gimmicks.

Within the fiscal guardrails.

This is what our towns have been clamoring for.

Republicans are standing up for special education students and their families.

Republicans are standing up for property taxpayers.

But Democrats voted NO.

Democrats instead cut a backroom deal.

They offered a budget gimmick bill.

They created an off- budget account.

That’s not transparent. That’s not good governance.

It violates the fiscal guardrails.

This is the type of fiscal gimmick that leads to future tax hikes.

Gov. Lamont: VETO this gimmick bill.”
