March 17, 2025

The CT Senate Republican caucus’s public safety policy bill’s public hearing is scheduled for Monday, Mar. 17 in the Judiciary Committee at 10:00 AM in Room 2C. (https://www.cga.ct.gov/2025/TOB/S/PDF/2025SB-01504-R00-SB.PDF)
The bill:
- allows police to pursue in certain instances when a felony has been suspected to have been committed
- adds 17 crimes to the list of crimes that a person must serve 85% of their sentence before becoming eligible for parole, including crimes against children and the manufacturing and selling of fentanyl
- requires the gun trafficking task force to report annually to the Governor and the legislature on the number of arrests for trafficking in illegal guns, the number of guns seized, and the resources they need to better accomplish their job
- requires GPS monitoring for bonds of $500,000 or greater
“Senate Republicans stand with law enforcement,” said Sen. Stephen Harding. “Many of the violent crimes we have seen could have been prevented, but law enforcement officers in our state are prevented from doing their jobs as a result of policies passed by the majority. We are all appreciative of everything law enforcement does to protect our communities on a daily basis. It’s about time we stand up for them and take a stand against crime. We hope our ideas will receive bipartisan support. These solutions will make our communities safer.”
