Senator Kissel Defends Movie Theater Entertainment for CT Families, Opposes S.B. 797

HARTFORD, CT – This week, during a General Law Public Hearing, Sen. John A. Kissel (R-Enfield) voiced strong opposition to S.B. 797, a bill that would require movie theaters to disclose the exact start times of both feature films and previews, with a $1,000 fine for non-compliance.
Sen. Kissel emphasized that this legislation is unnecessary and distracts from the real issues facing Connecticut residents.
“In my 33 years serving this district, not one constituent has ever raised this as a concern,” said Sen. Kissel. “Meanwhile, we have movie theaters working hard to provide entertainment for families, and this bill would do nothing but create unnecessary burdens on them.”
He also pointed out that imposing a $1,000 fine for failing to disclose preview times is excessive and out of touch with reality.
“At a time when we should be supporting small businesses, this bill does the opposite. Connecticut’s theaters have already faced enough challenges. We shouldn’t be making it harder for them to operate.”
Sen. Kissel concluded by urging lawmakers to focus on meaningful issues that impact Connecticut families instead of regulating something that has never been a problem.
“This is a solution in search of a problem. Let’s move on and tackle the real challenges facing our state,” Sen. Kissel Continued.
