HARTFORD, CT – Sen. Jeff Gordon (R-Woodstock), Rep. Doug Dubitsky (R-Chaplin), and First Selectman Juan Roman III (R-Chaplin) are celebrating the incredible achievement of Monty, the award-winning Giant Schnauzer from Chaplin, who took home the prestigious Best in Show title at the 149th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
Monty’s remarkable victory is the culmination of years of dedication, training, and hard work. After winning the Working Group at Westminster for the third consecutive year, Monty went on to defeat top dogs from across the country and around the world—including a German shepherd, a bichon frisé, a whippet, and an English springer spaniel—to secure the ultimate prize.
“Monty’s achievement is a source of immense pride for our entire community,” said Sen. Gordon. “Winning at Westminster is no small feat. It takes patience, commitment, and an extraordinary bond between Monty and his team. This is a well-earned victory, and I extend my sincerest congratulations to everyone who played a role in Monty’s journey to the top.”
Monty is owned by Katherine Bernardin who resides in Chaplin, with her husband, Adam. Their dedication and passion for competitive dog training have helped bring national recognition to their hometown.
With over 2,500 dogs competing in this year’s show at Madison Square Garden, Monty’s triumph is a testament to the talent and dedication of Connecticut’s dog handlers and breeders. His victory shines a national spotlight on our state and, more importantly, brings excitement and joy to the residents of Chaplin and beyond.
State Representative Doug Dubitsky also shared his excitement, saying, “The Town of Chaplin congratulates Monty and his owner, Katie Bernardin. Together, they have made us incredibly proud and made our little rural town shine on the world stage.”
“Achievements like this remind us of the hard work and passion that go into every competition, and Monty’s story is an inspiration to us all,” added Sen. Gordon. “Our community is incredibly proud of him, and we look forward to celebrating this incredible milestone.”
Monty’s historic win will no doubt leave a legacy in the world of competitive dog shows, and Sen. Gordon, Rep. Dubitsky, and First Selectman Roman III encourage everyone to take a moment to recognize the skill, discipline, and heart that went into this unforgettable moment.
