Sen. Gordon Comments on Governor Lamont’s Commitment to Public Education in the 2026-2027 State Budget, Emphasizes Need for Fiscal Responsibility
February 5, 2025

HARTFORD, CT – Today, Senator Jeff Gordon (R-Woodstock) responded to Governor Lamont’s budget address, emphasizing the importance of continuing to invest in public education while ensuring responsible use of taxpayer dollars.
“I have long advocated for strong investments in public education, and I am encouraged to see this issue recognized in the proposed budget,” said Senator Gordon. “Providing every child with access to a high-quality education and giving our schools and teachers the tools needed to provide that education, are essential to strengthening our workforce, economy, and communities,” he continued.
While supporting efforts to improve Connecticut’s education system, Senator Gordon underscored the need to stop cuts in funding from happening. He championed and won to stop big cuts to towns in the district the last two years. “I remain vigilant on this issue, and I have raised a concern that in the Governor’s proposed budget there might be a slide back on funding, something I fight against.”
Sen. Gordon is working in a bipartisan way again to increase funding for special education, while at the same time finding innovative ways for special education that saves money, something the Governor stated support for.
“We must also be mindful of Connecticut’s taxpayers and ensure that these investments reflect fiscal common sense and discipline that has been serving us well,” Gordon added. “It’s critical that we fund our schools in a way that is sustainable and responsible, without overburdening hardworking people and families with more taxes when Connecticut already has a high cost of living.”
Senator Gordon remains committed to working with his colleagues in the legislature to ensure public education funding is allocated fairly and effectively to deliver the greatest benefit to students, teachers, and communities in the district and across the state.
