Sen. Gordon Applauds State Agriculture Grants Awarded to Local Farms

HARTFORD, CT – Several farms in the 35th State Senate District, represented by Sen. Gordon (R-Woodstock), have been awarded grants from the Connecticut Department of Agriculture, providing critical support for agricultural innovation, infrastructure, and business expansion. These grants will help local farmers invest in new technology, improve sustainability, and grow their businesses.

“This is fantastic news for our local farms,” said Sen. Gordon. “I have been a long-standing supporter of local agriculture. These grants will provide much-needed resources to strengthen agriculture in our district, supporting both new and established farmers. Investing in our farming community is essential to ensuring a strong and sustainable agricultural future in Connecticut. Thank you, Governor Lamont, and the CT Department of Agriculture.”

The following farms in the district received grants:

  • Collinswood Mushrooms (Tolland) – $4,450
    • New Farmer Microgrant to purchase climate control systems and shelving for a mushroom fruiting chamber in a 40-ft shipping container.
  • Forest Mill Farm (Coventry) – $5,000
    • New Farmer Microgrant to purchase a high-temperature bottler, filter press, maple candy-making machine, and maple cotton candy machine.
  • Sand Meadow Farm (Ellington) – $5,000
    • New Farmer Microgrant to build a small, on-site farm store.
  • Union Bee Company (Union) – $49,999
    • Innovation & Diversification Grant to construct a timber-frame building that will serve as a honey house, woodshop, classroom, and breeding office to support beekeeping, education, and queen breeding.

Gordon added. “Congratulations to all the recipients and thank you for your dedication to Connecticut agriculture.”
