CT Senate GOP Statement on Govt Falling Far Short of Electrifying 50 % of State Vehicle Fleet
February 13, 2025

Sen. Henri Martin, Sen. Jeff Gordon, Sen. Ryan Fazio and Sen. Stephen Harding today issued the following statement regarding CT government falling far short of electrifying half of the state vehicle fleet by next year.
“State law says that by Jan. 1, approximately 1,200 state government vehicles must be EVs.
Connecticut government currently has just 43 EVs.
It is emblematic of why state government should not be forcing consumers to buy electric vehicles.
State government obviously can’t even reach its own EV milestone.
The governor now has no appetite to resume the effort to phase out sales of new gas-powered cars over the next decade. Good. The EV mandate would have crushed already struggling middle class families and businesses.
People can’t afford their current crippling electric bills and taxes. Just imagine your future bills if this mandate became reality?
Republicans pushed back on the mandate. We toured the state and listened to people who want choice when it comes to EVs. We thank them for speaking out.
Republicans will continue to demand a more affordable Connecticut.”
