Sen. Martin votes “yes” on pension reform spurred by Trooper Pelletier’s tragic death

Sen. Henri Martin today voted in favor of a legislative fix that will grant death benefits to the families of state employees killed in the line of duty, regardless of age or years of service.

The legislation is in response to the death of Trooper Aaron Pelletier, who was struck and killed by a pickup truck driven by an unlicensed driver last year while conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 84 East in Southington.

“We will never forget Trooper Pelletier’s incredible service and sacrifice,” Sen. Martin said. “This legislation sends a message to law enforcement and their families that we honor them.  It is an honor to pass this bipartisan fix in order to maximize the benefit to Trooper Pelletier’s family. Families of troopers killed in the line of duty protecting the state of Connecticut should be given all the benefits they deserve.”

The Senate approved the agreement by a vote of 34 to 0 (Senate Resolution 10), and the House of Representatives approved it by a vote of 143 to 0 (House Resolution 12).
