Sen. Gordon Announces Three Tax Credit Bills to Support Connecticut Families, Seniors, and Veterans - CT Senate Republic

HARTFORD, CT – Today, State Sen. Jeff Gordon (R-Woodstock) announced the introduction of three new tax credit bills: SB 324, SB 321, and SB 112. These pieces of legislation are designed to ease the financial burdens facing families, caregivers, veterans, and seniors, while combatting Connecticut’s high taxes and unaffordable costs of living.

“These bills are about fighting to make Connecticut more affordable for everyone,” said Senator Gordon. “Our veterans, caregivers, and families deserve relief and recognition for their hard work and sacrifices. With our sky-high energy costs and skyrocketing expenses, we need to put more money back into the hands of the people who make our communities strong.”

The first bill, SB 112, proposes a $500 child and dependent tax credit for families with children under 17, disabled dependents or spouses, or dependents over 65 who reside with the taxpayer.
The second bill, SB 321, creates a $500 caregiver tax credit for those who care for a senior family member. To qualify, the family member must either be 50 or older and receiving Social Security disability benefits, or 60 or older. Senator Gordon emphasized the importance of supporting caregivers, saying, “Caregivers are often unsung heroes, dedicating their time and resources to supporting loved ones. This credit helps ease the financial challenges they face.”

The third bill, SB 324, establishes a refundable veterans’ caregiver tax credit for taxpayers who care for a family member receiving disability payments for a service-connected total disability. Eligible taxpayers can receive a credit of up to $675 or the amount of the family member’s disability payments, whichever is less.

Senator Gordon stressed that all three bills aim to combat the affordability crisis in Connecticut.

“Families, caregivers, veterans, and seniors are facing tremendous financial pressure, from energy costs to high taxes. These bills will provide real relief and reaffirm the value and importance of these groups in our state. I’m committed to fighting for policies that make Connecticut a more affordable place to live and thrive.”

Senator Gordon encourages residents to voice their support for these bills and help push forward legislation that prioritizes the people of Connecticut.
