Sen. Tony Hwang Issues Statement on Governor’s Proposed Bill Addressing Extreme Weather Events

HARTFORD, CT – State Senator Tony Hwang (R-Fairfield), Ranking Senator on the Insurance and Real Estate Committee, issued the following statement today regarding the Governor’s proposed bill aimed at addressing the increasing threats of extreme weather events:

“As Ranking Senator on the Insurance and Real Estate Committee and a long-time advocate for addressing climate change, I commend the governor for prioritizing resiliency and coastal protection in his proposed legislation. While we confront the escalating threats posed by rising sea levels, severe storms, and other extreme weather events, it is critical that we take proactive and comprehensive action to protect our communities.

I was proud to support the governor’s legislative proposal, SB 11, last year, which sought to address these urgent challenges, and I am fully committed to supporting similar efforts again this year. Our focus must include nature-based solutions, robust investments in coastal resiliency, and smart, strategic planning to mitigate the devastating impacts of climate change.

Community engagement is also key. These efforts must involve a collaborative approach with residents, local leaders, and stakeholders to ensure we develop solutions that are both effective and equitable.

Let us seize this opportunity to safeguard the well-being of our citizens and the economic vitality of our state. Together, we can make Connecticut a national leader in climate resiliency and adaptation, protecting both present and future generations from the ever-growing risks of extreme weather.”
