Sens. Sampson & Berthel Statement on 18 % Increase in Homelessness
December 27, 2024
For Immediate Release
Sen. Rob Sampson and Sen. Eric Berthel today issued the following statement regarding the 18% increase in homelessness in 2024.
“It’s a tragic statistic. And it’s now a part of President Biden’s lengthy legacy of policy failures.
“We have wide open borders. Let’s start there.
Biden-inflation crushed jobs and forced people out of their homes. The number of children experiencing homelessness in Connecticut has risen by more than 75% since 2021. Completely unacceptable.
As the page mercifully gets turned on the rudderless Biden administration, let us remember this tragic stat and resolve to do all we can to make Connecticut more affordable.
As Republicans, we will do that through spending discipline, eliminating wasteful spending, pro-freedom policies, and tax cuts.
State Democrats will continue to push feckless and misguided policies – such as legislation onerous to housing providers – and then be seemingly ‘puzzled’ by the results.”
