Sen. Hwang Statement on Apprehension of Suspect in UnitedHealthcare CEO Slaying

December 9, 2024

For Immediate Release

State Sen. Tony Hwang, Ranking Senator on the Connecticut General Assembly’s Insurance and Real Estate Committee, issued the following statement regarding the apprehension by police on Monday of a person of interest in connection with the homicide of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

“We had been praying for the apprehension of the person connected with this coldblooded execution. It appears that an alert employee in a Pennsylvania McDonald’s saw something, and, thankfully, said something.

We thank the police and the public for their assistance in locating the alleged perpetrator. It will be equally important to learn why someone would resort to such brazen and deadly violence.

Here in the ‘Insurance Capital of the World’, we continue extending prayers and sympathy to the Thompson family, to the UnitedHealthcare workforce, and to our entire state insurance industry which employs more than 63,500 workers.”
