Sen. Harding: “The right decision” made on offshore wind opt-out
December 20, 2024
More than a year after announcing a much-hyped partnership with Rhode Island and Massachusetts to boost the region’s offshore wind industry, officials in Connecticut on Friday confirmed they have no plans to move forward with any new wind projects for the time being.
At the same time, the announcement was met with praise by those who had criticized Lamont and Democrats’ approach to rising utility bills.
Senate Minority Leader Stephen Harding, R-Brookfield, called it “the right decision” for Connecticut’s ratepayers.
“Before we go anywhere in terms of further investment in wind energy we need to make sure that it’s more affordable than it currently is,” Harding said.
In an interview with CT Insider, DEEP Commissioner Katie Dykes said that the state remains committed to pursuing offshore wind projects in the future, while also pointing to efforts underway with neighboring states to develop transmission lines connected to available sources of clean power.
