Sen. Cicarella Named Deputy Republican Leader Pro Tem, Announces Legislative Committee Leadership Appointments
December 12, 2024

State Sen. Paul Cicarella (R-North Haven) today announced that he has been appointed as the Senate Republican Caucus Deputy Leader Pro Tem and will continue his role as the caucus’ chair of operations. Sen. Cicarella was also reappointed as ranking member of the legislature’s General Law and Public Safety and Security committees for the 2025–2026 term of the Connecticut General Assembly.
He said, “I’m honored to continue my service as the voice for families, seniors, veterans, and businesses of the 34th District. I’ll continue to work with Senate Republican leaders to offer policies that will make Connecticut more affordable, safe, and prosperous for all residents.
“We must bring more tax relief to families and make more improvements to laws that affect public safety in our state, which is a huge issue for people in our district. I have been extremely vocal on these two issues since I was elected and will continue to do so.”
Sen. Cicarella has been a leading voice for affordability and public safety at the Capitol during his previous two terms. Since entering office, he successfully led multiple community rallies across the 34th District to oppose an additional gas tax, supported a budget that provided additional tax relief, and led efforts to defeat majority Democrats’ proposed electric vehicle mandates. In 2024, he led the Senate Republican effort to reduce skyrocketing energy bills by supporting several policies that included the removal of public benefits charges from customer utility bills.
Additionally, Sen. Cicarella continues to lead the effort to connect Connecticut’s residents with well-paying careers through workforce development legislation. In 2022, he made key contributions to a legislative measure that helps high schools partner with local job creators, along with reinvigorating vocational school recruitment. Most recently, he has championed legislation that ensures high school students receive financial literacy education and better access to apprenticeship programs.
“We must continue to ensure that all Connecticut residents have an opportunity for well-paying, fulfilling careers—importantly, our veterans. College isn’t for everyone, and there’s a pressing need for workers in the trades as well. These fields are not only what keep our state functioning; they also provide opportunities for many people, both young and more advanced in age, to become employed and on track for a great career,” said Sen. Cicarella.
Sen. Cicarella was first elected in 2020 and enters his third term representing the 34th State Senate District. The district includes the towns of Durham, East Haven, North Haven, Wallingford, and Northford, which was added during the 2021 redistricting project.
