Chief Deputy Republican Leader Rob Sampson (R-Wolcott) was awarded with a Connecticut Police Chiefs’ Association (CPCA) Carroll J. Hughes Legislator of the Year Award at the CPCA Winter Meeting and Mini Expo, held yesterday, Dec. 12, at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville.

The award is named in honor of longtime and respected lobbyist Carroll J. Hughes and recognizes lawmakers who champion initiatives and legislation critical to law enforcement. Hughes worked extensively with the CPCA and other organizations throughout his career.

“I am honored to be recognized by the Connecticut Police Chiefs’ Association, whose members are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for people in the 16th District and across the state, and ensure that everyone is treated equally under the law.

“I am fortunate to represent five towns with exceptional police departments, with leaders that have honor and dedication. Police in our towns have faced immense challenges over the past decade, including policy shifts that impacted Connecticut’s criminal justice system. I will continue to introduce and support legislation that enables our police chiefs to lead their departments for the benefit of public safety. I remain committed to ensuring public safety and supporting law enforcement, because it is a cornerstone of thriving communities,” said Sen. Sampson.
