US Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas

Dear Secretary Mayorkas,

As Connecticut state senators, we write on behalf of our constituents who are seeking facts and explanations regarding many recent unsettling unauthorized drone sightings here in our state and around the country.

The Department of Homeland Security plays a crucial role in providing clear, timely information to guide our state and local authorities. Those state and local authorities can then use those facts to better protect and inform Connecticut residents.

Transparency and frequent communication will prevent speculation and fear. We must be proactive, not reactive. Honest and straightforward public conversations will strengthen public safety and confidence. We request a phone conversation at your earliest convenience.

We also want to make you aware that we will be working with our federal delegation to make sure drone detection technology funds are made available to Connecticut in addition to New York and New Jersey.

Thank you for your attention and for the vital work you do in protecting our state and nation.

Sincerely,

Sen. Tony Hwang
Sen. Paul Cicarella
Sen. Stephen Harding
Sen. Jeff Gordon
