CT Senate GOP Statement on Half of CT Lacking Economic Security

December 10, 2024

The CT Senate Republican Caucus issued the following statement regarding The Urban Institute’s report which reveals that about half of Connecticut’s population lacks economic security.

“Every single week we see new evidence that more and more of our family, friends, and neighbors are struggling financially or ‘barely getting by’. Wherever we go, Connecticut Republicans hear that same troubling message loud and clear from working and middle class families. From groceries and electric bills to insurance and housing, Connecticut has become simply unaffordable.

Democrats have already refused to take swift action on lowering energy costs. They have refused to eliminate onerous taxes like the truck tax which directly increases grocery costs. Democrats rejected the Senate Republican plan to retroactively reduce the state income tax for the middle-class. Democrats said no to our plan for a $2,000 per child tax deduction and no to nearly doubling access to the $300 property tax credit.

Every issue the state legislature debates in the 2025 must focus on one word: Affordability. Because right now, as this latest survey reveals, Connecticut is speeding in the wrong direction. This survey – and all those that preceded it – must serve as a wake-up call to Connecticut Democrats.”
