October 23, 2024

WINSTED – Sen. Stephen Harding and Rep. Jay Case on Oct. 22 joined local and federal officials in applauding the state’s approval of $1.6 million in initial funding for the restoration and repurposing of the Winsted Health Center’s campus at 115 Spencer St. as well as another $1 million in federal funds for the Winsted Health Center Foundation.

“This is fantastic news for our region,” Sen. Harding said. “Rep. Case and I have long been champions for this funding. We thank the governor, Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Rep. John Larson for their leadership in addressing high housing costs as well as gaps in local employment training. We are also thankful for the strong advocacy of Winsted Mayor Todd Arcelaschi and Town Manager Paul Harrington.”

Rep. Case said, “Providing the men and women who have honorably served our country with veteran-focused affordable housing and additional workforce training space is crucial. These investments address housing shortages and will provide resources to get more veterans integrated within our state’s workforce. This is a true team effort – local, state and federal- and we look forward to seeing it come to fruition – our veterans deserve it.”

Kris Griffin, Executive Director of the Winsted Health Center, said, “I am grateful for Congressman Larson, Sen. Blumenthal, and the governor’s and the Community Investment Fund’s support for our project and belief in our vision and mission to make an impact, not only for our community, but for the surrounding communities and Connecticut as a whole. And, to echo Rep. Case’s comment, the support we have received locally and from the state and federal government is a ‘true team effort’ and will be what brings our project to fruition and to the ribbon cutting!”
