Senator John A. Kissel Celebrates the Effective Date of Youth Vaping Awareness Bill
October 3, 2024
HARTFORD – Senator John A. Kissel announced that as of this Tuesday, October 1st, the Youth Vaping Awareness Bill has officially gone into effect, marking a significant step forward in the fight against youth vaping in Connecticut. This legislation mandates that vendors of electronic nicotine delivery products, also known as “vapes,” must complete educational programs focused on the dangers of youth vaping if they are found selling these products to minors.
The idea for this legislation began with the Enfield Youth Council as its members prioritized finding solutions to the youth vaping epidemic here in Connecticut. Senator Kissel worked closely with the Enfield Youth Council to advance this important initiative, getting it passed by both chambers of the legislature and signed into law by Governor Lamont. The Council’s passionate members, including Izzy Dinnald, Jaci Martinez-Estrada, Alicia Lizotte, and Nicholina Parolo, shared their compelling stories about the impacts of vaping on their peers during the legislative process.
“Today, we take a vital step in safeguarding our youth and addressing the vaping epidemic that threatens their health and future,” said Senator Kissel. “The Enfield Youth Council students were a pleasure to work with. They are a shining example that no matter how old you are, you can bring change to your community. Their courage and determination remind us why we must continue to prioritize the health and well-being of our youth.”
The Youth Vaping Awareness Bill empowers law enforcement and public health officials to enforce stricter regulations while providing necessary resources to vendors to ensure compliance. This collaborative approach aims to decrease access to vaping products among minors and raise awareness of the health risks associated with vaping.
Senator Kissel remains committed to working alongside his colleagues to further initiatives that promote public health and protect Connecticut’s young people.
