FUNDING FOR KENT, SALISBURY APPROVED DURING STATE BOND COMMISSION HEARING

The Salisbury Housing Committee and Kent Memorial Library will each receive $2 Million

The State Bond Commission approved funding for two Northwest corner projects during its meeting today. The Kent Memorial Library will receive $2 million for renovations, and the Salisbury Housing Committee will receive $2 million to support the Holley Place Affordable Housing Project.

“Several items approved by the Bond Commission today will have a major impact on the Northwest Corner, and I’m so grateful to Governor Lamont for prioritizing these investments,” said State Representative Maria Horn (D -64th), the House Chair of the Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committee.

“The grant to Kent Library will help realize plans for the library to expand into the adjacent abandoned firehouse, creating needed community spaces at the library, returning the firehouse to public use, and increasing the vitality of the business district on Main Street in Kent.

“Expanding housing options is of critical importance to our communities, and today’s investment in Holley Place Affordable Housing in Salisbury will ensure this project becomes a reality. Supported by community resources and countless volunteer hours and expertise, this project will make it possible for more people to work, live, and raise a family here in the Northwest Corner.”

“It’s excellent news for Kent and Salisbury,” said State Senator Stephen Harding (R -30th Senate District). “The funds for Kent Memorial Library will pay dividends for the town for years to come. The money to advance affordable housing opportunities in Salisbury is a testament to the hard work of residents and volunteers throughout the town. These are two solid, smart investments in the northwest corner. I thank the governor for making these a priority.”

The State Bond Commission met on Tuesday, October 22 and approved all of the projects on its agenda.
