CT Senate GOP Statement on Violent Crime Data

October 18, 2024

The Connecticut Senate Republicans Caucus  issued the following statement regarding FBI data showing that violent crime in Connecticut was higher than initially reported in 2022.
“The new data shows that there were hundreds of more victims and dozens of more violent crimes than were originally reported.
Fifty more rapes. Ninety one more aggravated assaults.
Republicans have noted the 30 percent spike in vehicle thefts. We have noted the lawlessness on our roads.
When Republicans point out that the people we represent do not feel safe, we are labeled by majority Democrats as ‘fearmongers’.
Enough with the name-calling. Rather than blaming the messenger, the majority must join us in addressing this crisis. We must get to the roots of our crime and education problems. Republicans will continue offering alternative ideas, hope, and opportunity. Let’s start turning failure and tragic outcomes into success stories.”
