CT Senate GOP Statement on PURA Draft Gas $$ Decisions: Dems “refuse to do anything”

October 7, 2024

Sen. Ryan Fazio, Ranking Senator on the Energy and Technology Committee and Sen. Stephen Harding issued the following statement regarding the draft decisions issued by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority to decrease revenue for Connecticut Natural Gas customers by $19 million and increase revenue for Southern Connecticut Gas customers by $6.2 million.

“At this point, tapped out ratepayers’ heads are spinning. They can’t make ends meet. The majority Democrats at the State Capitol refuse to do anything to address this energy crisis which is sapping families’ savings and crushing small businesses’ bottom lines. It has been more than a month since Republicans signed a petition to call the legislature into Special Session to provide relief. Not a single Democrat state senator or state representative has signed on. Democrats control all levers of political power in Connecticut. They won’t stop the bleeding. Nothing is going to change in our state under one-party rule. So, the bleeding will continue, and it will continue for many years. Republicans continue to offer solutions, but our ideas are dismissed.”

For months, Republican lawmakers have been pushing for a special session to provide relief to ratepayers.
