Sen. Harding Statement on CT Statewide Property Tax Proposal
July 11, 2024
Sen. Republican Leader Stephen Harding issued the following statement regarding the governor’s recent public opposition to Democrat leadership in the state legislature announcing a push to enact a statewide property tax next year.
“The governor said ‘it doesn’t make sense to be raising taxes in Connecticut.’ He’s absolutely right. We should be lowering taxes for everyone, but Democrats at the State Capitol cannot stop looking for new ways to tax Connecticut families. Just as Democrats approached the enactment of the paid sick leave mandate, which first applied to businesses with more than 50 employees but will now apply to all businesses, they will most assuredly do the same with regard to the statewide property tax. We will all be paying that statewide property tax eventually if it passes. We appreciate the governor for standing up to his fellow Democrats on what appears to be their top goal: tax hikes.”
