June 1, 2024

HARTFORD, CT – Senator Heather Somers (R-Groton) is pleased to announce that the State Bond Commission has published its agenda, highlighting the allocation of substantial funds for the Groton Early Childhood Education Center. If approved at next Friday’s meeting on June 7, the Thames Valley Council for Community Action, Inc. will receive $2,000,000. These funds will be used to develop a new building, resulting in an expansion of childcare services in the community.

Senator Somers said, “Prioritizing accessible childcare is essential to the well-being of our community. By investing in the Groton Early Childhood Education Center, we are not only providing a much-needed space for our children to thrive but also supporting working families who rely on these services. I am grateful to the Governor for recognizing the importance of this project and look forward to its final approval.”

The $2,000,000 funding is part of the 27 eligible projects voted on by the Community Investment Fund 2030 Board on March 12 and recommended to the Governor to be financed through bonding. This significant investment underscores the state’s commitment to enhancing early childhood education and ensuring that every child has access to quality care and learning opportunities.

“The new facility will play a crucial role in meeting the growing demand for childcare services in Groton, offering state-of-the-art resources and a nurturing environment for young children. This expansion will enable the Groton Early Childhood Education Center to accommodate more families and continue its mission of delivering high-quality early education,” Senator Somers concluded.
