Sen. Seminara given ?% grade for votes on issues
impacting the business community
Sen. Lisa Seminara (R-Avon) has been awarded a 100 % grade by the Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) for his votes this year on issues impacting the state’s business community.
CBIA represents thousands of large and small employers in the Constitution State. One of the CBIA’s primary functions is its annual legislative scorecard and its determination of how friendly legislators are to the business community. Lawmakers were judged based on their support for policies that create jobs and bring businesses to Connecticut, as well as their opposition to job-killing taxes and burdensome mandates.
“I am very grateful to be recognized by CBIA with this perfect score,” Sen. Seminara said. “It is an honor to be a strong voice for businesses at the State Capitol. As state senator, my focus is on making Connecticut more affordable by lowering taxes, protecting your wallets through fiscally responsible policies, making our state a safer place and protecting vital human services for our most vulnerable residents. I work collaboratively and in bipartisan fashion to improve the quality of life for everyone. That work must continue as we work together to lessen burdens on taxpayers.”
Sen. Seminara noted that she was disappointed that a bipartisan measure to expand affordable health insurance options for small businesses and nonprofits did not get passed into law this year.
“For middle-class Connecticut families, the cost of health care is anything but affordable,” Sen. Seminara said. “This measure will create affordable healthcare options for small businesses with fewer than 50 employees. It allows small employers to pool together to jointly purchase large group health insurance plans directly from a carrier, making health insurance more affordable and accessible. We have got to get this commonsense idea passed into law next year. This is among my top priorities.”
Earlier this year, Sen. Seminara supported a Republican plan to provide the largest income tax and property tax cuts in Connecticut history. She voted in favor of a new bipartisan state budget which:
- cuts income tax rates for working families
- provides tax relief for seniors and veterans
- increases school aid
- pays down on our state debt
- supports town budgets and property taxpayers
- abides by the state’s spending and borrowing caps
Sen. Seminara was elected to serve the 8th Senate District in 2022. The 8th District includes the towns of Avon, Barkhamsted, Canton, Colebrook, Granby, Hartland, Harwinton, New Hartford, Norfolk, Simsbury and Torrington. On the web: www.SenatorSeminara.com
