Sen. Gordon Celebrates Expanded Reach of Crumbling Foundations Program Benefitting More Families - CT Senate Republic

State Sen. Jeff Gordon (R-Woodstock), ex-officio member of the Connecticut Foundation Solutions Indemnity Company (CFSIC), today applauded the program’s milestone of more than 800 families placed into homes with new foundations. CFSIC is the state’s insurer for homeowner claims resulting from the crumbling foundations natural disaster in eastern, north and central Connecticut. Sen. Gordon is also a member of the legislature’s Crumbling Foundations Caucus.

A recent report indicates that CFSIC has restored home foundations for 802 families, and many more await the next round of program funding of $25 million.

“We are going in the right direction to make all families affected by this disaster whole. This program is not only helping families in northeast Connecticut, but also putting our tradespeople to work in repairing hundreds of homes. I’ll continue to support families and businesses affected in our region, and continue to advocate for the program’s ongoing funding,” said Sen. Gordon.

The program was originally scheduled to expire in 2022. Sen. Gordon offered legislation during the 2023 legislative session to fund CFSIC into the future through additional state bonding because of the anticipated thousands of remaining home and business-owner claims.

Upwards of 35,000 homes in a radius of Stafford Springs are potentially affected by a failed concrete foundation due to the possible presence of a naturally occurring iron sulfide, pyrrhotite, in their concrete foundation. The state established CFSIC five years ago to finance related homeowner insurance claims.
