Sen. Somers Applauds State Funding for Plainfield and Preston

Sen. Heather Somers today applauded the awarding of state grants to Plainfield and Preston for outdoor recreation projects.
  • Plainfield has been awarded $10,000 for the planning and design of open space on Kate Downing Road.
  • Preston has been awarded $59,400 for planning, design and construction of the Poquetanuck Cove and Village Heritage Trail.

“This is welcome news for Plainfield and Preston, and the state’s attention to these local projects is very much appreciated,” Sen. Somers said.  “Congratulations to town leaders on attaining this funding which help improve the quality of life and recreational opportunities in both municipalities.”

According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the value of outdoor recreation in 2021 contributed nearly $4 billion to the state and supported more than 40,000 jobs. The funding from the Connecticut Recreational Trails Program is administered by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
