Sen. Kelly statement re: CT Board of Pardons & Parole changes - CT Senate Republic

For Immediate Release:

Senate Republican Leader Kevin Kelly (R-Stratford) issued the following statement regarding the governor’s selection of a new Chair of the Board of Pardons and Parole and that the former Chair will remain on the board.

“I appreciate the governor’s willingness to take this step, but it does not change the fact that this outrageous policy of shaving decades and decades off of Connecticut murderers’ prison sentences continues to this day.

A month ago, Republicans stood with family members of Connecticut murder victims to call on the governor to suspend commutations until the administration can explain the reason for this astounding increase. The board must stop commutations until the General Assembly can act on a policy that respects and protects victims and their families. Senate Republicans will continue to stand with victims of violent crime and their families.”
