CGA Environment Committee Ranking Members Remember Gaia McDermott

HARTFORD- Today, Environment Committee Ranking Members, Senator Stephen Harding (R-Brookfield) and Representative Patrick Callahan (R- New Fairfield), issued the following statement on the tragic passing of Environment Clerk and long-time Senate Democrat staffer, Gaia McDermott.

“We were devastated to learn about the loss of Gaia McDermott. Sadness does not begin to describe the darkness that has come over the Capitol complex in the past few days. Her years of service represented the best of the General Assembly, and her passion for equality and environmental justice inspired her on every campaign, in every office, and on every issue she worked on. The name “Gaia” is Greek, meaning Goddess of the Earth, and we are not sure if there is a more suitable name for someone who lived every day appreciating the earth under her feet and the air in her lungs. Our hearts go out to her friends here in the General Assembly, her son, whom she adored, and all her extended family and friends touched by her legacy. Let this be a reminder to take care of something Gaia loved so dearly: next time you see a beautiful sunset or a blooming flower remember her memory and her lifetime of service to Connecticut.”
