In a Govt. Administration & Elections Committee meeting, Senator Sampson deconstructs a proposal to establish a ‘working group’ to change CT law to penalize online harassment of individuals and guidelines for reporting online harassment of municipal and state-elected officials. Senator Sampson, himself a recipient of online threats, explains how a need for such group is unnecessary as there are already actionable laws to prevent harassment in any form (in-person, online, etc.). He expresses concern for this proposal for fear it is an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
