Sen. Kelly Appoints Sheri Szymanski, Director of the Stratford Library & Monroe Resident, to Serve on the State Library Board - CT Senate Republic

Senate Republican Leader Kevin Kelly (R-Stratford) is appointing Sheri Szymanski to serve on the State Library Board. Ms. Szymanski, a Monroe resident, currently serves as the Director of the Stratford Library Association.

 

Szymanski has worked at the Stratford Library since 2006, guiding the organization through a period of change and growth. She is a member of the American Library Association, Connecticut Library Association, New England Library Association, Fairfield County Library Administrators’ Group, and currently serves as President of the Monroe Scholarship Fund, Inc. and Treasurer for the Rotary Club of Stratford.

 

“It is an honor to appoint Sheri Szymanski to the State Library Board,” said Senator Kevin Kelly. “Sheri brings the expertise of a 34-year career in Connecticut libraries, including working in youth engagement, technology, strategic planning, fundraising, budget management, community outreach and every other facet of library management. She currently represents Stratford Library on the Stratford Chamber of Commerce Board, School Readiness Council, Rotary Club and has expanded the Library presence at various town-wide events. She understands the challenges libraries face and has vast knowledge on the deep community benefits of libraries, especially here in Connecticut.”

 

“I am so proud of the impact that we have had on our community—providing opportunities to learn, create and share—even through the pandemic,” said Szymanski. “I have dedicated my career to Connecticut public libraries, developing a broad understanding of the needs, challenges and accomplishments of these essential community centers. I am eager to bring my experience and perspective to service on the Connecticut State Library Board.”

 

Szymanski holds a Bachelor of Science in English and an Elementary Education Certification from Sacred Heart University, as well as a Master of Arts in Library Science from Southern Connecticut State University.

 

The State Library Board provides leadership and support services to Connecticut’s 169 public libraries. The Board determines policy for the State Library and provides for the supervision of the State Library by a State Librarian who is responsible for developing and directing a public records management program. The State Library Board also approves rules and regulations for the state publications depository library system, the retention, destruction and transfer of documents; the Connecticard program; and statewide library programs.
