Citing Lamont’s Comments, Senate Republicans Again Call on Democrats to Hold Public Hearing on School Construction Financing Program
February 16, 2022

Gov. Lamont: “If they want a public hearing, they can have a public hearing, sure.”
HARTFORD – Senate Republican Leader Kevin Kelly (R-Stratford) and Senate Republican Leader Pro Tempore Paul Formica (R-East Lyme) are renewing their request to Connecticut Democratic legislative leaders to hold a public hearing on the state’s school construction financing program, citing comments made by Governor Ned Lamont yesterday that he is not opposed to a legislative hearing on the school financing program that is allegedly at the center of a federal investigation.
Yesterday, Governor Ned Lamont told reporters that he would not oppose public hearings by the legislature stating, “If they want a public hearing, they can have a public hearing, sure.” Republicans first requested a hearing on February 10, 2022.
“With the Governor pledging transparency, we again request that the General Assembly immediately move forward with a public hearing to examine the school construction financing program and bring executive branch officials involved in the management and oversight of the school construction program before members of the General Assembly to answer our questions and provide insight into the program’s operation and management,” Sens. Kelly and Formica wrote to Democratic legislative leaders today.
“Connecticut has a responsibility to ensure that taxpayer sacrifices are always respected. The legislature must seek transparency and demand answers for the people we represent.”
CT Senate Republicans are seeking both a state audit and public hearing on the state’s school construction financing program. The Republican leaders’ request follows reports that federal authorities are conducting an investigating allegedly involving contracts for Connecticut school construction projects overseen by the executive branch.
