John A. Kissel, serving his 16th term, represents Connecticut’s 7th District. He is the Ranking Member of the Judiciary Committee and the Regulation Review Committee. He is also a member of the General Law Committee. For many years, John has been a leading advocate for seniors and has been recognized for his support of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, safe housing and healthcare. He is also active in numerous civic organizations in his current hometown of Enfield.

On Friday, January 16th, 2026 the Judiciary Committee met for an investigative briefing on the results of the auditors report on the Department of Corrections. I had the opportunity to speak with Former State Senator and State Auditor Craig Minor, Department of Corrections Ombudsman DeVaughn Ward, and The Commissioner of the Department of Corrections Angel Quiros. On December 12, 2025, I had the opportunity to tour Conval Inc. in Enfield and see firsthand the strength of local manufacturing in our district. During the visit, I met with CEO Scott Allard and Chairman Frank Silver, who provided Liz Carter and Alexandra Twyman from Advantage Capital CT and me with a comprehensive tour of the facility and insight into the company's advanced operations.

Conval produces a wide range of high-performance industrial valves, including components used in nuclear power plants. An impressive example of the precision and innovation happening right here in our community.

On Monday, November 3rd, I continued my special education tour at Granby Public Schools, where I met with Superintendent Cheri Burke. She provided a comprehensive tour of the district’s special education department and discussed the goals they are pursuing as we prepare for the 2026 legislative session.

During my visit, I had the opportunity to meet several dedicated students and staff members, including Brian Liss, Executive Director of the YMCA, who hosts Granby Public Schools’ students aged 19–22 special education program, Kathleen Walsh, a special education teacher for students ages 19–22, Elizabeth Barlow, Secretary of the Granby Board of Education, and Kathryn Weingartner, Director of Pupil Services.

It was an amazing and informative tour, and I greatly appreciated the opportunity to see firsthand the important work being done to support students in Granby.
